College Tours: Miramar, Hollywood Hills & Stranahan High School Students
The Career and College Readiness Curriculum is a value-added educational component made possible by the TK Foundation. This special curriculum is designed to enhance Hispanic Unity's 21st Century Youth Development Program powered by the Children's Services Council of Broward County. The overall program provides juniors and seniors from Miramar and Stranahan High School with the tools needed to successful transition from high school, to either college, or the workforce.
This year students began by creating accounts on FACTS.org/ FLVC.org and FLCHOICES.org in order to take a career interest inventory. Upon completion of interest inventory students researched colleges, universities, or schools that offered their field of study.
Students then began the creation individualized portfolios. The college/career counselors then worked with students individually and/or in groups in order to explore college and career choices. From the start of the program (September 9th) to present the students have completed and/or accomplished the following:
- Each student created and submitted a copy of their resume to their coaches
- Reviewed the monthly scholarship bulletin and applied for scholarships
- Weighed the benefits of going local vs out of state
- Concluded mock interviews with Unity 4Teens staff
- Learned how to “dress for success”
- Dialogued with guest speakers from local colleges to discuss college/career options
- Registered students into the CareerSource summer job placement program
- Completed college essays and applied for college
- Some students have already been admitted to their college of choice
